Frequently Asked Questions
Our Community Outreach Theatre is a community-centered theatre organization that uses trauma-informed theatre as a pathway to healing, connection, and creative expression. We create safe, inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can share stories, build community, and experience personal growth - both on and off the stage.
Everyone is welcome. We serve adults of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. You do not need prior theatre experience to participate - just a willingness to explore creativity, connection, and storytelling in a supportive environment.
While our work is trauma-informed and rooted in research on creativity and mental wellness, we are not a replacement for clinical therapy. Our programs offer therapeutic benefits through artistic practices such as movement, storytelling, and collaboration, and may complement other wellness or recovery supports.
We offer workshops, rehearsals, and performances focused on storytelling, improvisation, movement, and ensemble-based theatre. Our programs emphasize emotional safety, mindfulness, community building, and creative exploration. Program details will be listed on our Programs page as offerings become available.
Trauma-informed theatre prioritizes emotional safety, consent, and respect for lived experiences. Participants are never pressured to share personal stories and always have agency over their level of participation. Our facilitators create environments that honor boundaries, encourage choice, and support healing through creative expression.
No. Performing is always optional. Some participants enjoy being on stage, while others prefer writing, movement, behind-the-scenes roles, or simply engaging in workshops. There is a place for everyone, both in the spotlight and beyond it.
Creative practices such as acting, storytelling, and movement can support neuroplasticity, emotional regulation, stress reduction, and self-expression. Theatre also builds community - reducing isolation, strengthening communication skills, and fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
Our Buy One, Give Two model means that every ticket purchased allows two individuals in need to attend a performance or participate in programming at no cost. This includes survivors of trauma, individuals in recovery, youth shelters, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness. One purchase creates three points of impact.
